Kannapolis, NC (November 23, 2020) – After 4 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, November 22, a fatal accident took place on a highway in Kannapolis.
According to Rowan County officials, the accident took place in the southbound lanes of I-85 around the area of Old Beatty Ford Road. Police confirmed that two or more vehicles collided with each other in the area, causing one of the vehicles to catch on fire. The vehicles involved were badly damaged as a result.
Paramedics and numerous other responders were present at the scene. One victim, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. It is not known if any parties were injured as a result of the accident.
Due to the severity of the crash, the roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time.
No further details have been released. The investigation into the accident continues.
