Mt Airy, NC (January 24, 2021) – Around 10:47 p.m. on Saturday night, January 23, a victim was killed in a fatal accident on a major highway.
According to Surry County officials, the accident happened on I-74 around the area where it meets with I-77. Three passenger vehicles collided with one another in the area for reasons that are not yet known. The vehicles involved were heavily damaged as a result.
Paramedics and numerous other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene. One person, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. Nobody else was injured.
The roadway was blocked in multiple lanes as police cleared the scene.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol continues its investigation into the accident.
