Charlotte, NC (February 20, 2021) – Around 2 a.m. on Saturday morning, February 20, a fatal bus accident took place in Charlotte.
According to police, the accident took place in the southbound lanes of I-77 around the area of Sunset Road. At the time, a CATS bus was headed to the garage for the night. A second vehicle collided head-on with the bus for reasons that are not yet known.
Paramedics and numerous other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene of the accident. The driver of the passenger vehicle, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene. The bus driver was injured and hospitalized, though their condition is not yet known.
The roadway was blocked in multiple lanes for an extended period of time.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues.
