Charlotte, NC (January 23, 2021) – Around 9 a.m. on the morning of Friday, January 22, a fatal pedestrian accident took place in Charlotte.
According to police, the accident happened at the intersection of Brookshire Boulevard near the area of I-485. Police confirmed that a pedestrian was crossing the road in the outbound lanes of traffic when he was struck by a vehicle. The vehicle did not stop at the scene and was not discovered by police.
Paramedics and numerous other responders were dispatched to the scene. The victim, identified as 54-year-old David Mercurius, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Police spoke with witnesses, who said that the driver of the vehicle that struck Mercurius was driving erratically before striking him. The vehicle has since been identified as a dark red Kia Forte.
The roadway was completely blocked in the area for an extended period of time.
No further details have been released. The investigation continues.
