Statesville, NC (March 4, 2021) – On Thursday morning, March 4, a serious truck accident took place on a highway in Statesville.
According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident occurred in the southbound lanes of I-77. A disabled vehicle was on the shoulder of the road while a wrecker was pulled over giving assistance to the vehicle. All of a sudden, a box truck went into the left lane of traffic to avoid striking the wrecker and struck a Chevrolet Malibu.
Due to the accident, the box truck then veered over and crashed into a tractor-trailer. This caused the tractor-trailer to jackknife across both lanes of traffic.
One person, who has not yet been identified, was taken to Davis Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.
The driver of the wrecker, identified as Jeb Pemberton, was charged with impeding the flow of traffic. The driver of the box truck, identified as Terry Wayne Campbell, was charged with failing to reduce his speed to avoid an accident.
The investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family in hopes of a full recovery.
